My theme in the hunger games is fear.  Quote #1: “ so desperately hoping that it’s not me, that it’s not me, that it’s not me”.You can tell by the repetition of words how scared Katniss was at the start.  This makes a connection to the real world as Katniss starts off scared but in the real world people are forced to take a stand when it comes to doing something that they fear of doing.
Quote #2: “I’m completely overcome with stage fright”
This suggests that before Katniss had stage fright and was worried about how she was going to impress her sponsors, then this quote is after Cinna, Effie and Haymitch help Katniss overcome stage fright. This connects to the real world as stage fright occurs to some people when they under pressure and get worried of what mistake they can make.

Dear President Snow,

I have written to you to complain about the Hunger Games. First off, the Hunger game is a civil game where nearly everybody gets killed except for two people from the same district. This brings sadness to all the families with a lost member. By choosing people to play, you are breaking up families bringing sorrow, nobody wants to take part in the hunger games but you force them.

So here is what I think you should do, I think that you should shut down the Hunger Games that is right I mean to stop it for eternity. The reason for this is that it is a painful experience for young children age 12 with little experience and a small chance of surviving against older, more deadly enemies. This is scaring little children below 12 to see their siblings get killed in battle and it is making them afraid of nature. Not only has that but, by killing 22 people from 11 districts you increasing death rate population in Panem. Sure people die every year but now what you have done is hurt families and others just so the winners can win money. This may not be convincing you but try putting yourself in someone else’s shoes and imagine that it is you in the Hunger Games trying to survive, how would you feel? Would you not feel frightened to have to be up against 22 other people that are hunting you down to your death? Also imagine that your child was in the Hunger Game sand got killed, how would you feel? Would you not feel pain and misery, upset and full of fury? Think about what favor you would be doing everyone if you shut down the Hunger Games, then nobody would have to worry about the death of their sons and daughters.

So, that is why I and everybody else would really appreciate it if you stopped the Hunger Games and the changes you would have made by shutting down the Hunger Games so there is no more death battles between people with different levels of skills pointed against you in the games.

Daniel Chete

(Theseus and the Minotaur with the Hunger Games)

Theseus and the Minotaur is the story about a prince who slayed a beast with a head of a bull and the body of a human known as a Minotaur. the Hunger Games is about a girl Katniss and the quest to defeat everyone and win the Hunger Games and a quest of survival. these two stories have similarities such as the fact that both main characters were full of the same kind of personalities. Both Theseus and Katniss were full of bravery to kill their foes though their foes were more violent and terrifying to their eye.  Another similar personality is that they were full of courage when hey faced their biggest nightmares. this proves that Katniss is just as powerful as Theseus. They both seems active and focussed on their goal and it's worth. However, there are huge differences between the two stories such as the fact that "The Hunger Games" is more life risking than Theseus and the minotaur. this is because in" Theseus and the Minotaur" Theseus has to slay the beast the Minotaur so it is one against one but in "The Hunger Games" Katniss is facing people with the same skills and accuracy as her, some of which are more deadly and faster killers, those with little compassion but high self suffiency. These people are from eleven
other districts.
Another thing that makes both stories so different is that Theseus had a choice to either be brave enough to fight the Minotaur or to chicken out. Katniss was on the battlefield and had no choice but to kill to be able to survive as she had volunteered in the Hunger Games for the protection
of her sister. Also since Theseus was a prince he was awarded with a feast rather than with money whereas Katniss was awarded with money for winning the Hunger Game with Peeta and her family had very little before the Hunger Games.  The Hunger Games is more of a challenge on how long Katniss can survive but Theseus puts himself on a quest to end all the fear.

Gender stereotypes are facts about men and women that is based on their gender. this is basically assumed things about people based on their toughness, intelligence and their braveness. Here is some examples of what people think about men and women.

Women

Picture
All women have the same kind of character in them, women are more competitive over competitions than men. other facts are that:
 they are feminine
they are more communicative than men
they are nurturing
they are more daring than men
they are responsible

Men
All men are:
stronger than women
more muscular
they are masculine
they are braver than women
they are more aggressive than women
they are more courageous

When I was reading the Hunger games I noticed that Katniss
seemed to take charge between herself and Peeta and usually the male
takes charge to look after the women so Katniss seemed to be self
sufficient than Peeta. Peeta required help from Katniss to survive.
I also noticed that Peeta was more emotionally expressive towards
Katniss than she was to him.
He really showed his love for him, while Katniss did not easily show what
she thought about Peeta. This in a way makes Peeta braver when it
comes to feelings and communication. Also Peeta is not
very competitive in the games nor is he as aggressive as
his foes in the games.
Other characters like Cato are
very muscular, very aggressive, violent and a big threat
in the games.  Some characters are dominant.
The Hunger games is basically mixed with characters
with all kinds of personalities some non-related to
their gender, this makes the Hunger Games a positive thing
as there is an equal
chance of men and women winning,
women are just as aggressive as men and they are closely
competitive and can both be equally deadly. If men and
women work together in the games they are capable
of making progress in the games like the way Katniss
and Peeta work together to survive.

After scanning with my eyes the Emily Dickinson poem "Hope is the thing with feathers", I have found a snippet that sticks out to me ,the first line of the first stanza "Hope is the thing with feathers". I chose this line because it makes me thing of people stuck in nature's world trying to survive, they will be able to find and tell hope by the sight of a whistling bird. In the line Feathers represent birds and they are a sin of hope. This also reminds me of "The Hunger Games " because Katniss was stuck in the land of nature killing off her rivals but she still believed there was hope, that there was a chance of her surviving till the very end, of her close friends to stay alive in the games when violently attacked and left injured. what gave Katniss Everdeen the sign of hope were the whistling birds flying by through the still looking trees and breezy air. She was watching them flying by whistling their daily positive tune. the Poem "Hope is the thing with feathers" seemed less similar to the "Hunger Games" after reading the whole poem. I think that the true message in the poem is that hope does  not last. that things will start out good but then the bad thing will come like if you were going camping you will be excited and have everything planned out to go well but then when it actually happens then it is not as much fun as you think because there will be some faults in everything that you do no matter what.  From this poem I have learnt that  your hope is limited and that you're greatest sign of hope can be vanquished away from you leaving you hopeless. In other words there are things that can make you lose hope in herself like total disasters that happen recently that makes you ignore all signs of hope.

The lottery is a story about about a lottery of who gets stoned and in the Hunger Games is a story about a competition between each district and the boy and girl chosen in each district will take place in the games which is the games of death. the two stories have the same idea of someone dying. someone being killed by others and others getting killed in their own time. what is the different about the lottery is that it is a cruel law in their town that someone must die every year. This is done because of population since more people are being born than people dying. apparently a woman named Tessie from their town in this year mentioned gets the lottery meaning the stone of death.  there is also no change in law at the end of the story whereas in the Hunger Games  almost everybody gets killed except one person but in the end there was a change that there could now be two winners from the same district. More violence occurs in the Hunger Games than in the Lottery as more people get killed.

If I had to survive on my own in the wilderness, the easiest part would be finding shelter and some water to drink. this would not be exactly easy depending on where I would be in the wilderness and when it comes to finding shelter I would go for the perfect shelter that I warm and cosy for bad weather and can keep bears out.  Finding shelter would sometimes be simple because there are many great spots to sleep in. Once I would find my shelter, what would be harder would be to build it up a bit and to windproof it and rainproof it. Now finding water to drink that is usually known for the easiest part of staying alive. there are always nearby laves and reservoirs in the wilderness some of which are very clean. Of course, the hardest part of survival always kicks in when it comes to challenging myself to be able to take care of myself in the wilderness and that is getting food which would involve killing the nearest predator. Getting food is hard, I am going to always have to kill to feed myself and I would have to kill with weapons. that is another part to make weapons, this is tough because I would have to make the weapons such as an arrow and bow absolutely perfect for it to work and have good accuracy. It would also have to be very strong and powerful. Many people would struggle making bows and if I was to be stuck out there making bows would be one of my hardest challenges. Then to defend myself from other predators and animals, especially a bear would be very difficult. I would have to practice and make my shots to be perfect with direct hits.

Things happen in novels and films one inflicts on a person's backstory of war, revolution and natural disasters that happened to them. this occurs in the novel/film, 'The Hunger Games.'  also in private peaceful a book about a boy called Tommo who has a tough time in life when he is in a tough position and this story was set in world war one. we also learn that there are true heroes in the book who always fight back and take the damage instead of some one else like in the book 'Private Peaceful' when a tree was about to fall on Tommo, his dad pushed Tommo out of the way and took the damage which killed him. In the novel 'the Hunger Games' thee hero/heroine shown in this book would probably be Katniss because she took a challenge to play in the hunger games instead of her little sister Prim.  she also fights for position in the hunger games. in the hunger games Katniss is in  group of people in the games and relies on them. in the book private peaceful' Tommo is not full of good grief in the end as his brother Charlie gets executed in the war towards the end of the book for disobeying the sergeant. So Tommo didn't exactly have everything cleaned up in the end, he completely lost hope in the world after that.
